Chester Sportscars
MJL Zetec Ignition Tuning

Petrol engines will only produce efficient power if the ignition sparking point is accurately adjusted in accordance with engine speed and load.

Older engines used centrifugal weights, pneumatic devices and cam operated points but the modern 16 valve Zetec engine needs a more sophisticated electronic control unit ( ECU ) which will respond to inputs such as engine speed, load, engine temperature, air temperature, exhaust gas etc and compute the optimum ignition setting.

The ability to automatically advance & retard the ignition at various engine speeds, readjust this figure as the load on the engine changes, know when the engine is producing maximum power and protect the motor against over-reving, can all be met by a Chester Sportscars’ Ignition Tuning System.

Webcon is a long established company and their Alpha 3D Ignition Management Kit linked to a pair of Webber carbs will give very good results.

Alternatively Chester Sportscars have taken the programmable MJL ECU unit and put together a comprehensive package including the Ford ignition module, Zetec coil pack, flywheel position / speed sensor and connecting cable with plugs & sockets for £275 +vat.

Once the installation is powered up from the car’s ignition and connections made to the engine sensors, the distributorless ignition system runs independently and also provides an output to the cars tachometer and any on-dash shift lights or sequential LED displays, which can be user set and reset.
